John Barry was playing clubs at the height of the Northern Soul phenomenon which spilled over into more commercial songs that hit the charts in 1975 with records like, Skiing In The Snow, Out On The Floor, Sign On The Dotted Line to name a few. Whether you want a night of true Northern Soul songs or a mixture, the choice is yours.
During the 1960’s It wasn’t just Motown churning out stomping soul music as a host of smaller record labels tried to emulate the success of Motown. There seemed an endless stream of writers, musicians and singers queuing up to make music. This meant that thousand of good songs never stood a chance against the mighty Motown machine, they just got lost and forgotten until re discovered by soul enthusiasts in the UK which became known as the Northern soul scene. The Northern soul music and dance movement emerged from the British mod scene, initially in northern England in the late 1960s as more and more rare records appeared from the Sates on small record labels such as Okeh , Cameo- Parkway and Roulette. DJs were discovering more new records and playing them at venues such as the Twisted Wheel club in Manchester, The Golden Torch in Stoke-on-Trent, Blackpool Mecca, and Wigan Casino.
The scene still has a massive following toady with gigs all over the UK still getting attendances in the thousands.
